
The creators of Love Potion & Oogachaga Men’s Support Group (OCM). Now you get a special edition, mix of the both; OCM Couples’ Encounter – a couples’ support group for men in same sex relationships.
Be it gay or straight - Relationships take work. So, how do you do it? Couples' Encounter will bring together gay male couples who are committed to having fulfilling relationships. Share, learn and build relationships with other couples as you and your partner explore your own needs, wants and issues surrounding your relationship.
Themes covered:
1. Values – What are your values, what are your partner’s values? How do they impact your relationship? What do you when there are differing values?
2. Conflict management – Understand both yours and your partner’s interactional patterns during conflicts, to better manage the tiffs.
3. Intimacy – How can you and your partner understand and meet each other’s needs better to intensify your physical and emotional intimacy. Are these needs changing? How do you adapt then?
4. Building a life together – What are your goals as your couple? What supports your growth as a couple?
Who is it for?
This program is aimed at male same sex couples, who see themselves as being in a committed relationship for more than 6 months. Both men are required to attend all the sessions.
Pre-Group Interview
From Oct to Nov 2011, we’ll be setting up a meeting between each couple and the OC team to compare your needs with the direction of the group. It’ll be an opportunity for you to ask any questions, and ascertain if this is really a suitable program for you. Register now as places are super limited!
Date & Time
Six Saturdays (2pm – 5pm)
The group is estimated to start in 2012 once suitable participants sign up. The actual dates will be provided at the pre-group interview.
Structure & Format
Couples’ Encounter consists of 6 sessions, with 5 being formal and 1 social outing. Each 3 hours session will comprise of activities and discussions to expand your awareness and understanding of yourself and each other. These sessions will be moderated by our facilitators.
About our facilitators
Alphonsus is a dedicated volunteer counsellor with Oogachaga since 2009. He has been involved in several of OC's workshops and worked with gay couples. Alphonsus is also an active member in many other LGBT organisations in Singapore.
Lawrence Goh volunteers as a counsellor at Oogachaga and works as a family counsellor. Lawrence enjoys his vocation because it gives voice to those whose preferred stories are silenced.
